As a part of your degree, you'll be required to submit a capstone project. Through this Interdisciplinary Studies capstone course, students, working with two faculty advisors, will write a research paper involving two of three topic areas proving their mastery of a particular subject.
The Interdisciplinary Studies major allows students to combine knowledge and methodologies from three historically separate disciplines (e.g. Visual and Performing Arts, Humanities, Natural and Physical Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, and Mathematics, Health and Movement Science, Social Science, School of Business, School of Education, and School of Nursing). This major offers the student a dynamic opportunity to devise, in concert with their faculty advisor, a program of study designed by the student to prepare them for the innovative thinking necessary for success in today鈥檚 complex world and matched to the student鈥檚 particular interests and career goals. In addition to the general education requirements, majors in Interdisciplinary Studies must complete a program of 39 s.h.

The Interdisciplinary Studies Capstone serves as the culminating academic experience for students in the Interdisciplinary Studies major. In this course, students synthesize learning from two of their three designated topic areas, integrating knowledge, theory, and methodology under the mentorship of faculty representing both disciplines. The capstone is a letter-graded arranged course. Students are responsible for securing faculty members who agree to serve as capstone instructors of record. Students may complete the capstone through one of the following options, developed in consultation with their instructors, 1) Research Paper or 2) Applied or Creative Project. A completed and fully approved Interdisciplinary Studies capstone proposal form will be required prior to registration.
