Professor of Education Emeritus Michele Dickey Kotz, EdD, and Education Department Chair Tanya Coffelt, EdD, co-presented聽The Masks that Remain.聽 From their summary: The COVID crisis demanded that universities require students, faculty, and staff wear masks to promote the safety of those in the campus community. For the most part, the physical masks are gone; however, student behavior suggests that a paralyzing mental health crisis remains behind the unseen masks worn by those we work so hard to teach.聽

Dr. Dickey-Kotz also presented聽Social Norming and the Influence of Toxic Masculinity Among Male Faculty in Higher Education.聽From her summary: The number of women enrolling in college continues to soar and, at the same time, the number of women faculty and administrators has also increased. However, many women students and professionals continue to report experiences of disrespect and destructive behavior exhibited by male colleagues within the academic community.聽 This presentation poses the question, 鈥淗ow is the toxic behavior of the male professoriate influencing the perception of acceptable social norms on college campuses?鈥�
